B.C. Premier David Eby says the province will move forward with its anti-tariff advertising campaign targeting the American public, just days after U.S. President Donald Trump blamed a similar effort by Ontario for his decision to cancel trade talks with Canada.
The province announced the campaign last week, with Eby stating it was intended to defend both B.C. and Canada against the threat of U.S. softwood lumber tariffs.
Following the collapse of U.S.-Canada trade discussions late last week, Eby said it remains “essential” to communicate the province’s message about tariffs directly to Americans, and that B.C. reserves the right to do so through advertising.
A spokesperson for Eby’s office confirmed that the softwood lumber tariff ads are expected to launch in November.
