More British Columbians are getting flu and COVID-19 shots this fall compared to last year, a trend health officials welcome. Health Minister Josie Osborne warned about increasing vaccine misinformation—much of it coming from outside Canada—which she says undermines public confidence.
As of Oct. 19, nearly 275,000 people in B.C. have received influenza vaccines and about 215,000 have received COVID-19 vaccines, both higher than at the same time last year. Officials are urging everyone to get immunized, especially the very young, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions, due to the circulation of various viruses and bacteria that can lead to serious illness and hospitalizations.
Vaccines are available to people six months and older at clinics, pharmacies, and some doctors’ offices. Appointment invitations are being sent through the province’s Get Vaccinated system, and residents can register online or by phone.
