RCMP on Vancouver Island say seven teenagers have been arrested and charged in connection with a violent assault on another youth earlier this summer.

According to police, the victim’s family reached out on July 3 after the youth reported being “severely assaulted by a group of teens” the previous night near the 6660 block of Goodmere Road in Sooke.

The victim required medical treatment, and the attack was recorded and circulated on social media.

“Investigators gathered evidence that led to identifying seven youths involved in the assault,” the statement read.

Warrants were obtained, and all suspects have since been arrested, Sooke RCMP confirmed.

Staff-Sgt. Greg Willcocks, commander of the Sooke RCMP detachment, acknowledged concerns about one arrest made near school grounds, adding, “We are taking the allegations of this assault very seriously.”

The suspects’ identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
