A licensed practical nurse in Burnaby has been suspended for two days for disciplinary reasons after being absent from work, falsifying records, and submitting claims for expenses that were not incurred, according to the professional regulator.

The “practice issues” took place on July 20, 2023, as outlined in a consent agreement between the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives and Sukhveer “Sunny” Uppal, approved on September 4.

“The establishment and maintenance of trust is foundational for any regulated professional, including nurses and midwives, whether with patients, colleagues, or employers,” the college stated in an online summary of the agreement.

“Fraud undermines this trust and constitutes a breach of professional responsibility, accountability, and ethical nursing standards.”

Along with the two-day suspension, Uppal was formally reprimanded and required to complete remedial education in ethics and professionalism.

“The inquiry committee is satisfied that these measures address the professional and practice concerns and will help protect the public,” the college added.
