Minister Niki Krieger says Bill C-14 will give the province stronger tools and resources to combat violent and extortion-related crimes. She highlights the role of the new Provincial Extortion Taskforce — which already includes federal RCMP and CBSA officers — and says B.C. continues to work closely with Ottawa, including discussions with federal Justice Minister Sean Fraser. Krieger also explains why B.C. continues to use the Crown-approval model for charges, saying it ensures convictions stand firmly in court and is now being looked at by other provinces as a best practice.
