The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) reports that its automated license plate recognition program is assisting police in removing uninsured drivers from the roads. According to the Crown corporation, police use this technology to scan up to 3,000 license plates per hour to identify drivers without insurance. Last year, police issued nearly 17,000 tickets for uninsured driving, a significant increase from the previous years, which saw between 10,000 and 12,000 tickets issued.
