The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) continues to seek public assistance in the unsolved homicide of Jatinder “Michael” Sandhu.
On July 23, 2016, Surrey RCMP responded to a shooting on the 14300 block of 90A Avenue. First responders found two individuals with gunshot wounds. One victim survived, while 28-year-old Jatinder “Michael” Sandhu was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.
Nine years later, IHIT remains actively investigating Michael Sandhu’s death. The case is still classified as unsolved and is featured on IHIT’s Unsolved Cases webpage to raise public awareness and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
Evidence gathered so far suggests the shooting was connected to the BC Gang Conflict; however, investigators believe neither Michael nor the surviving victim were the intended targets. Both victims had no criminal records.
Investigators continue to urge anyone with information about Michael Sandhu’s homicide to contact them. Information can be shared via the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
Statement from Michael’s family:
“This year Michael would have turned 37. We have missed eight of his birthdays. Michael loved celebrating his birthdays, and we still honor the day with his favorite cake and releasing balloons at the time of his birth. It has been nine long years since Michael was taken from us, and the emptiness we feel will never fade. If anyone has information about that night, please help bring justice to our family.”
