Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire at a popular local grocery store that occurred over the weekend in Surrey. Officials believe the business, Fruiticana, was intentionally targeted.
At approximately 12:05 a.m. during the night between Saturday and Sunday, Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers responded to reports of a fire at a commercial building in the 12000-block of 80 Avenue.
Surrey Fire Services arrived quickly on the scene and managed to extinguish the flames.
Fortunately, only minor damage was reported to the building, and there were no injuries resulting from the blaze.
While the specific motive remains under investigation, the SPS has stated they believe the fire was a deliberate act of arson. The SPS Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) has taken conduct of the file and is actively leading the investigation.
The targeting of a well-known community business has raised concerns in the area, though police have not yet released details regarding potential suspects.
