A team of police officers descended on a city parkade in New Westminster on Monday, responding to what they believed was a man armed with a handgun.

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) reported that an officer on patrol around 4 p.m. spotted a group of men on the second level of the Front Street parkade, one of whom was holding the suspected firearm.

“The incident resulted in a significant police presence in and around the parkade,” the NWPD said in a statement on Wednesday.

Police subsequently arrested four people and seized the gun. Upon closer inspection, the weapon was determined to be a replica.

The NWPD further disclosed that “Officers also learned that the group had been filming a music video.”

The police department described the incident as “extremely reckless,” adding that the officers needed more indication that the activity was a video shoot to prevent such a large-scale emergency response.
