Apple has expanded its Self Service Repair program to Canada, giving customers access to repair manuals and diagnostic software for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Customers can then purchase replacement parts and rent or buy the necessary tools to carry out repairs themselves.

Canada becomes the 34th country to gain access to the program, which offers components ranging from batteries to glass screen covers, along with tools like torque drivers, adhesive cutters, and screw bits. AppleCare service and repair vice-president Brian Naumann said the initiative is designed to “extend device longevity, cut down on waste, and provide secure, high-quality repair options for both customers and professionals.”

However, Apple’s websites suggest that self-repair can often be more expensive upfront than having the company handle the work. For instance, a battery and screw kit for the iPhone 16 costs $135 plus tax through Apple’s parts website, while an in-store battery replacement done by Apple staff costs about $99.
