Peel Regional Police have announced another arrest in connection with “Project 24K,” the investigation into the largest gold heist in Canadian history. The case involves the theft of over $20 million worth of gold bars and foreign currency from Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Investigators apprehended 43-year-old Arsalan Chaudhary at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday. Chaudhary was taken into custody immediately after arriving on a flight from Dubai. He now faces charges related to the massive theft that took place nearly three years ago.

The heist occurred on April 17, 2023, after a flight from Zurich, Switzerland, landed at Pearson Airport carrying approximately 400 kilograms of gold and $2.5 million in foreign currency. The cargo was transported to a holding facility on airport grounds, but Peel Regional Police were notified the following day that the entire shipment had vanished.

This complex international investigation has seen close cooperation with the Philadelphia Field Division of the ATF. To date, Peel Regional Police have identified 10 individuals involved in the plot and have laid more than 21 charges. However, some key suspects remain at large.

Police are still searching for two primary suspects from Brampton: 33-year-old Simran Preet Panesar, a former Air Canada employee, and 36-year-old Prasath Paramalingam. Authorities believe Panesar is currently in India; a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest, and extradition proceedings are underway. Additionally, a warrant remains active for Durante King-Mclean of Brampton, who recently pleaded guilty in the U.S. to charges related to international firearms trafficking.
