EDMONTON, AB – Voters in Alberta are casting their ballots today in three provincial by-elections. Among the candidates is Alberta NDP leader Naheed Nenshi, who is making his bid for a seat in the legislature after a year on the sidelines.
Nenshi is running in the by-election for Edmonton-Strathcona, a riding historically strong for the NDP. His predecessor, Rachel Notley, secured a commanding 80 percent of the vote in the constituency during her last campaign there. Nenshi’s entry into the provincial political arena has garnered significant attention, as he aims to solidify his leadership within the party by gaining a presence in the legislature.
In addition to Edmonton-Strathcona, by-elections are also being held in Edmonton-Ellerslie and the rural riding of Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills. These races are seen as a litmus test for the current political climate in Alberta and could offer insights into voter sentiment ahead of the next general election. The results of these by-elections will be closely watched by all major political parties in the province.
