Air Canada and the union representing its flight attendants have reached a tentative agreement, ending the strike that began early Saturday morning. The airline announced that it will gradually resume operations starting Tuesday.

The deal was reached after overnight talks with a federal mediator. The agreement will now be presented to members of the Air Canada component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees for a vote.

“Your right to vote on your wages was preserved,” the union stated on its website, while also advising members to “fully cooperate with the resumption of operations.”

The airline has scheduled its first flights for Tuesday evening but warned that a full return to regular service could take seven to 10 days as aircraft and crew are not in their proper positions. As a result, some flights will continue to be canceled until the schedule stabilizes.

The strike came after the federal government intervened on Saturday, invoking Section 107 of the Labour Code to force the airline and union into binding arbitration. Union officials defied the order, leading the Canada Industrial Relations Board to declare the strike unlawful on Monday.
