Air Canada flights at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) were canceled Friday as the airline and its flight attendants’ union failed to reach a new agreement. This marks the final day before a potential work stoppage that could ground all Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flights.

More than 10,000 flight attendants are set to walk off the job around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, which could be followed by a company-imposed lockout if the two sides cannot secure a last-minute deal.

Flights from Vancouver to international destinations, including Miami, Denver, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Frankfurt, and Osaka, were among those canceled on Friday. Air Canada told reporters on Thursday that it expected more than 500 flights to be impacted on Friday in anticipation of the stoppage.

The airline confirmed it will notify eligible passengers of cancellations via email and text message. YVR is urging Air Canada passengers not to come to the airport unless they have a confirmed booking and their flight is still listed as operating.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Air Canada component has stated it is eager to negotiate to prevent a work stoppage. In contrast, the airline has formally requested that the federal government intervene and direct both parties to enter into binding arbitration.
