Air Canada flight attendants are voting on whether to authorize a strike mandate for their union.
The voting period will run until August 5, following the end of conciliation talks between the Air Canada division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the airline, which ended without an agreement.
The union, which represents over 10,000 flight attendants, has been in contract negotiations for more than seven months.
Air Canada acknowledged the vote, describing it as a routine part of the bargaining process and emphasizing that it does not necessarily indicate any upcoming service disruptions.
The airline also noted that a strike cannot occur until a 21-day cooling-off period has passed after the 60-day conciliation period ends.
The union stated that despite ongoing efforts during negotiations and the conciliation process involving a federally appointed mediator, major issues such as wages, unpaid work, and pensions remain unresolved.
