Air Canada has announced that its Aeroplan loyalty program will be changing how members earn points starting next year.

Under the new system, members will earn points on eligible Air Canada flights based on the amount of money spent, rather than the distance flown. Members will receive at least one Aeroplan point for every dollar spent on qualifying Air Canada flights.

The updated earning structure will apply to travel beginning January 1, 2026.

On the same day, Air Canada will also introduce “status qualifying credits,” offering a new way for members to reach Aeroplan Elite status.

According to the airline, these changes aim to better reward members who spend more, travel more frequently with Air Canada, and actively participate in the Aeroplan program, while preserving the exclusivity of Aeroplan Elite status.
