11th 93.1 RED FM Gurupurab Radiothon Supporting cardiac care at Surrey Memorial Hospital
This year’s goal is to raise $1 million for cardiac care in the Coronary Care Unit, which serves patients with serious heart problems from Surrey and the surrounding communities.
Although heart disease hits most families, the South Asian community is especially impacted. Research from Fraser Health shows that if you are of South Asian descent, you are twice as likely to develop heart disease than the rest of the population. You are also more likely to be impacted at an earlier age, and at greater risk of suffering a heart attack.
Since 2007, with the support of RED FM’s listeners, these Radiothons have raised more than $5.7 million for programs that benefit thousands of people each year, including the Emergency Department, the Family Birthing Unit, the Stroke Unit and the Kidney Centre.
