SURREY, BC- Following British Columbia Premier David Eby’s call, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is also urging Ottawa to designate the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization. Brown warned that the India-based group has firmly established itself in the Peel Region and is connected to various criminal activities.

In an interview, Brown described the Bishnoi gang as a “horrible criminal organization.” His comments come just days after B.C. Premier David Eby made similar remarks and promised to formally write to Prime Minister Mark Carney regarding the matter.

“We’ve had a number of Bishnoi-related criminal activities in the Peel Region,” Brown stated. “We know they’re happening across the country because we are in close contact with other law enforcement agencies, particularly in B.C., where there’s activity with the same criminal network.”

Bishnoi has been imprisoned in India since 2014. However, India’s counter-terrorism agency, the National Investigation Agency, previously stated that he continued to operate his “terror-syndicate” from behind bars and through an associate in Canada. Brown highlighted that the gang Bishnoi leads employs a global network of “700 shooters” and is actively recruiting vulnerable residents in Peel and beyond. He further alleges that Bishnoi is directing criminal activity throughout Canada
