A 44-year-old dump truck driver from Abbotsford has been fined and fired after allegedly crashing into a ditch while impaired near Mission last week.
BC Highway Patrol said the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, when the dump truck rolled into a ditch along Lougheed Highway in the Deroche area.
Police said the driver failed a roadside breath test but was not seriously injured. His licence was seized, the truck—owned by his employer—was impounded, and he received over $500 in fines for driving without due care and having open liquor in the vehicle.
While officers were still on scene, the driver’s supervisor arrived and immediately terminated his employment, police noted.
