Abbotsford police say a second shooting occurred in the city on Monday.

According to Sgt. Paul Walker, the incident took place around 11:45 a.m. near the intersection of George Ferguson Way and Ware Street. “When officers arrived, they located the scene inside a residence. The house is currently secured by police, and several individuals have been detained,” Walker said.

A 41-year-old man was airlifted to a Vancouver hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“Officers remain inside the home, clearing the residence to ensure everyone’s safety,” Walker added.

Police believe they have arrested those responsible for the shooting, and the suspects remain in custody. “This residence is known to police,” Walker said.

Authorities have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. “This was a targeted, isolated incident involving the occupants of the home. The neighbourhood is not at risk,” Walker stated.

This marks the second shooting in Abbotsford on Monday. Earlier that morning, a 68-year-old man was shot and later died near Ridgeview Drive and Summit Drive around 9:20 a.m.

Police say the two shootings are not connected. “It is not related to the incident that occurred earlier this morning on the west side of town near Ridgeview,” Walker told reporters.

George Ferguson Way remains closed in both directions as officers continue to investigate.
