The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating an early morning shooting near Bear Creek Park that left one man injured. The victim is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
At approximately 6:00 a.m., SPS officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 13700 block of 88 Avenue. Shortly after, around 6:30 a.m., hospital staff notified police that a male had arrived at the emergency department suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities have confirmed that his injuries are non-life-threatening.
Frontline officers have cordoned off the area to collect evidence and have conducted extensive searches of the park and surrounding residences. Investigators are currently interviewing the victim to determine the exact location and circumstances of the shooting.
In a statement to the public, police clarified that this incident does not appear to be related to ongoing extortion threats in the region. Furthermore, officials believe there is no ongoing risk to the general public at this time.
No arrests have been confirmed as of Friday afternoon, and the investigation remains active.
