Residents of a quiet Cloverdale community were jolted awake by the sound of gunfire early Thursday morning, marking yet another brazen act of violence on Surrey’s streets. While a residence sustained visible damage, officials confirmed that the occupants narrowly escaped physical injury in what appears to be a targeted incident.
At approximately 4:35 a.m. on March 12, 2026, members of the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) rushed to the 19500 block of 65 Avenue following multiple reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers cordoned off the area and discovered several spent shell casings littering the pavement. Forensics teams spent the morning documenting bullet holes in a local residence, though fortunately, no one inside or in the vicinity was struck.
The RCMP SPOSU General Investigation Unit (GIU) has officially taken the lead on the case. While the investigation remains in its infancy, detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and reviewing CCTV and dashcam footage from the early morning hours.
“While the motive for the shooting is still under investigation, it doesn’t appear this incident is related to the ongoing series of extortions in Surrey.” said SPS in a statement.
The shooting adds to the growing concern regarding public safety in the region. Although police have ruled out a link to the high-profile extortion rings currently plaguing local business owners, the motive behind this specific attack remains a mystery.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) and RCMP continue to maintain a presence in the Cloverdale area as the search for suspects continues.
