A 28-year-old man has been charged in connection with four alleged stranger assaults against women in downtown Vancouver, police say.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) began investigating on January 29, 2025, after a 44-year-old woman was assaulted by a man she did not know while walking near Granville and Dunsmuir streets. In the months that followed, at least three other women reported similar incidents involving a suspect matching the same description.

Police say the suspect allegedly elbowed or shoulder-checked the women as he passed them on downtown sidewalks, in some cases knocking them to the ground.

Investigators from the VPD’s Special Investigation Section arrested the suspect, Dylan Brandon Gaita, on March 5 with assistance from patrol officers in the downtown core.

Gaita now faces four counts of assault related to incidents that allegedly took place between January 29, 2025, and January 31, 2026.

“Unprovoked violence against strangers is an ongoing concern for everyone, and we know that sometimes these incidents are not immediately reported to police,” said Constable Megan Lui. “Although we’ve made an arrest in these cases, there may still be additional victims, witnesses, or people with information.”

Police are releasing the suspect’s photo and asking anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact them.
