A joint commercial vehicle safety operation in Coquitlam resulted in 16 unsafe trucks being taken off local roads.
On March 4, 2026, Coquitlam RCMP carried out vehicle inspections alongside several partner agencies, including BC Highway Patrol, Vancouver Police, Metro Vancouver Transit Police, New Westminster Police, Delta Police, Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam bylaw officers, Township of Langley Bylaws and WorkSafeBC.
During the operation, officers inspected 28 commercial vehicles. Sixteen were ordered out of service because of serious safety concerns. In total, officers identified 69 vehicle defects and issued 12 violation tickets.
Police say multi-agency operations strengthen enforcement efforts, particularly for commercial vehicles that frequently travel across municipal boundaries throughout the Lower Mainland.
In one case, officers stopped a truck pulling a trailer that was 5,260 kilograms over the weight permitted by its insurance, while also exceeding axle and tire limits. The vehicle’s tires and chains were also heavily worn.
Staff Sgt. Mark McCutcheon of the Coquitlam RCMP Traffic Unit said commercial vehicle operators are responsible for ensuring their vehicles meet legal requirements and remain safe to operate, warning that poorly maintained or overloaded vehicles can pose a serious risk to other road users.
RCMP say they will continue targeted enforcement efforts to improve road safety.
