Criminal charges have been formally approved against a 28-year-old man following a Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into an assault that occurred last month in the Cedar Hills neighborhood.
The incident took place on February 6, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m. near 99 Avenue and 123 Street. According to investigators, a young female was allegedly approached and assaulted in the area. The SPS Special Investigation Section (SIS) took conduct of the case and, following a public appeal that included the release of a suspect’s image, was able to identify and arrest a male adult.
On February 13, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved the charges against the suspect including one count of Forcible Confinement (Criminal Code Section 279(2)) and One count of Assault (Criminal Code Section 266).
The accused has been released from custody with strict conditions. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on March 20, 2026.
Police are now looking to determine if there were other victims. Investigators are working to preclude the possibility that the accused may have committed similar offenses in the Whalley area or surrounding neighborhoods. Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding this incident or other similar occurrences to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502.
