A 48-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 43-year-old Jessica Cunningham.

On August 26, 2025, Ridge Meadows RCMP were investigating Cunningham as a missing person at a home on the 22800 block of Gillis Place. Human remains were discovered inside the residence, prompting the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) to take over, working alongside Ridge Meadows RCMP, Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service.

Previously, on August 27, 2025, Mylie Barron was charged with indignity to human remains in relation to the investigation. After further evidence was gathered, IHIT recommended an additional charge of second-degree murder.

On March 3, 2026, Barron, who had been in a relationship with Cunningham and lived with her at the Gillis Place residence, was formally charged with second-degree murder. He remains in custody and is set to be sentenced for the indignity to human remains charge on March 5, 2026.

Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT noted the ongoing investigation was crucial to uncovering the truth, and expressed condolences to Cunningham’s family and friends, describing the case as tragic.
