Burger King plans to introduce a new AI-powered assistant called Patty to its restaurants across the United States by the end of this year and to many of its 380 Canadian locations around the same time. The expansion was confirmed in an email to The Canadian Press by spokesperson Kristen Viersen.
Patty, developed by Restaurant Brands International (RBI), will provide real-time guidance to employees through their headsets. The tool can remind staff how to prepare menu items, suggest ways to upsell customers, and flag operational issues such as washrooms that need cleaning or drink machines that are out of a specific flavour. It can also prompt workers to remove unavailable items from digital menus and mobile apps.
RBI executive chairman Patrick Doyle said the technology significantly speeds up certain maintenance tasks. For example, replacing a drink flavour cartridge — a process that previously could take more than a day — can now be completed within an hour using Patty’s alerts.
The system has already been piloted at 550 U.S. locations. However, business consultant David Pullara has raised concerns that the AI tool could increase pressure on workers by requiring them to juggle too many tasks at once.
