A 28-year-old man has been charged with more than a dozen offences after allegedly kidnapping three women across Metro Vancouver over a four-day period last month.
Ridge Meadows RCMP said the suspect was arrested on Jan. 18 after receiving a report that a woman was being held against her will in a car by an armed individual. The suspect and the woman were located in Pitt Meadows, and he was taken into custody.
Following the arrest, investigators discovered two other similar incidents had occurred in Surrey and West Vancouver in the days prior. Police from all three jurisdictions submitted their findings to Crown prosecutors for charge assessment.
Authorities allege the suspect identified victims through an online platform and lured them by offering job opportunities. In addition to kidnapping, Amritpal Singh faces charges including two counts of uttering threats, three counts of mischief involving text messages or online data, assault, and sexual assault with a weapon, among others.
Police continue to investigate the case and urge anyone with information to contact them immediately.
