B.C. labour board orders Amazon to retroactively raise wages at unionized Delta warehouse

British Columbia’s Labour Relations Board has ruled that Amazon must retroactively apply a wage increase to employees at its union-certified warehouse in Delta.

The ruling follows Amazon’s decision to raise wages at non-union facilities across the Lower Mainland while excluding workers at the Delta site. Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle said the company improperly left out unionized employees, effectively penalizing them after Amazon had already been found in violation of labour laws for anti-union conduct.

Amazon said it believed B.C. labour legislation prevented it from extending the wage increase to the Delta facility, but confirmed it is complying with the board’s decision and will update workers’ pay as soon as possible.

McGarrigle said the ruling ensures Delta warehouse employees will receive the wage increase retroactively as a result of the board’s findings.
