John Rustad, the former leader of the B.C. Conservatives, has signaled a potential return to the party’s top job. Speaking ahead of the upcoming legislative session in Victoria, Rustad indicated that he would be “available” to discuss a bid for his former position once the house resumes next week.
According to news recent reports, Rustad has reportedly requested and received a leadership application package. While he has yet to issue a formal statement confirming his candidacy, his willingness to address the matter coincides with the start of the new legislative term. The move comes just months after Rustad resigned in December, following a loss of confidence from his own caucus members.

The party’s Executive Director, Angelo Isidorou, declined to confirm which individuals have requested leadership packages, citing internal privacy. However, the race is already becoming crowded, with 10 candidates officially entered so far. Candidates must secure at least 250 signatures and pay a significant fee to appear on the final ballot.
The B.C. Conservatives are scheduled to hold their leadership election on May 30. Political analysts are closely watching to see if Rustad can successfully rebuild support among the same caucus members and board officials who previously declared him “professionally incapacitated” prior to his resignation.
