Surrey Police Service has released photos of the two men charged in the January 26, 2026, firearm-related investigation after determining that the disclosure is necessary to assist with the ongoing police investigation.

SPS Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton said, “We hope that the public release of images of Harshdeep Singh and Hanspreet Singh prompts additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with relevant information regarding the activities of Harshdeep Singh and Hanspreet Singh on or before January 26, 2026”. “Photos will be considered for release on a case-by-case basis and based on the legal necessity to seek assistance from the public with police investigations”, he added.

At approximately 3:50 am on January 26, SPS officers with Project Assurance were patrolling the area of 129 Street and 84 Avenue. Project Assurance is a specialized initiative where officers proactively monitor business corridors and neighborhoods that have been frequently targeted by recent extortion attempts and related violence. During the patrol, officers reported hearing a gunshot and immediately moved to intercept a suspect vehicle.

SPS said that after locating and stopping the vehicle, police took the driver and a passenger into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of a loaded handgun. The SPS Major Crime Section has since taken over the investigation, leading to formal charges against the two occupants.

20-year-old Harshdeep Singh is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm is present and 21-year-old Hanspreet Singh faces one count of occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm is present.

Police confirmed that both men are foreign nationals, and as a result, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has been engaged to review their status. Both individuals have been remanded in custody until January 30, 2026. Investigators state the probe is ongoing and further charges may be pending as they determine if there are links to the broader extortion crisis currently plaguing the city.
