B.C. will introduce fixed permitting timelines for its mineral exploration sector starting April 1, Mines Minister Jagrup Brar announced. He said the timelines reflect industry feedback while continuing to protect the environment and uphold reconciliation with First Nations.
According to a ministry statement, permits will be processed within 40 to 140 days, depending on the complexity of the proposed activity. If a decision isn’t reached within the initial timeline, an escalation process will ensure applications are referred for a decision within 14 days. The report was first published by The Canadian Press.
