18-year-old killed in clash between two groups in Kelowna

An 18-year-old man has died following a violent confrontation between two groups on Saturday night. Local authorities are currently treating the death as a “targeted incident” and have launched a major investigation.

The incident occurred on January 24 at approximately 8:20 p.m. Kelowna RCMP responded to reports of an assault taking place near the intersection of Springfield Road and Benvoulin Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the young male victim suffering from life-threatening injuries.

BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS) quickly transported the victim to Kelowna General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, the individual later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit has now taken conduct of the file. Investigators are actively examining the circumstances leading up to the altercation and are working to identify the individuals involved in the two groups.

“The investigation is in its initial stages and appears to have been a targeted incident,” stated Corporal Steven Lang, Kelowna RCMP Media Relations Officer. Police emphasized that no further details regarding the victim’s identity or potential suspects will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
