Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met for about an hour with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, before addressing the forum with a sharp critique of European responses to Russian aggression. After the meeting, he took aim at Europe’s slow action and contrasted Western responses, noting that while former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro is on trial in New York, Russian President Vladimir Putin “is not on trial.”

Zelenskyy used the comment to underscore what he sees as a lack of accountability for Russia amid its ongoing war with Ukraine. During a fiery speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Zelenskyy criticized Europe for failing to take the lead in defending global freedom, appearing directionless while attempting to sway the U.S. president’s position.

He also called on European countries to seize Russian oil tankers funding the war in Ukraine, highlighting the contrast with recent U.S. measures against Venezuelan oil shipments.
