British Columbia Premier David Eby says Indian companies and the delegation he is leading have been holding “extensive discussions” about access to the province’s mining and energy sectors during his six-day trip to India, which wraps up Saturday.

Eby told reporters from Mumbai that the Indian firms are seeking the government’s assistance in connecting them with B.C. mining companies. Energy is a close second in interest, he said, noting the “urgency around energy is huge” in India. The premier highlighted strong attention on B.C. gas, particularly liquefied natural gas projects nearing final investment decisions.

Eby also addressed recent reports citing an RCMP document obtained under access-to-information laws, which Global News says suggests the India-based Lawrence Bishnoi crime group is “allegedly acting on behalf of the Indian government.” Eby said he has seen the document and clarified that the paragraph in question is a “summary of publicly available news reports,” not an RCMP intelligence report. The Canadian Press has not reviewed the document.

The B.C. delegation, which includes Jobs Minister Ravi Kahlon, has also visited New Delhi, Chandigarh, and Bangalore during the tour.
