Body discovered inside burning residence in Surrey; Police investigation underway

A death investigation has been launched after a man’s body was discovered inside a burning home in Surrey early Monday morning. Local authorities are now working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

According to Surrey Police, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene in the 12700-block of 56 Avenue at approximately 7:00 AM following reports of a structure fire. While firefighters were searching the engulfed building for potential occupants, they located the remains of a deceased individual.

The Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team and Serious Crime Investigators have been called in to assist the BC Coroners Service and fire investigators. A primary focus of the investigation is to determine the exact cause of death and to establish whether foul play was a factor in the tragedy.

The cause of the blaze remains undetermined at this stage. During the height of the firefighting operation, several local roads were cordoned off to traffic. Police are urging anyone with information, or those who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time of the fire, to contact investigators immediately.
