The victim of a fatal shooting in Abbotsford on Friday has been identified as Navpreet Dhaliwal, a high-profile B.C. gangster who was facing active charges for conspiracy to commit murder.

According to police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, Abbotsford Police responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in the 3200-block of Siskin Drive shortly after 12:35 PM on Friday. Upon arrival, officers located a man inside the home suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Despite extensive life-saving efforts by first responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Sgt. Walker noted that the residence was already well-known to police and confirmed that the deceased was a familiar figure to law enforcement, deeply entrenched in the ongoing British Columbia gang conflict. The property on Siskin Drive had specifically been listed as a surety for Dhaliwal’s release following his most recent arrest.

The shooting follows a significant public safety warning issued by the Abbotsford Police in August 2024. At that time, police warned the community that 28-year-old Dhaliwal and another individual, Anmol Sandhu, posed a “significant risk to public safety” as they planned to reside in West Abbotsford following their release on bail.

Dhaliwal and Sandhu were primary targets of a major drug trafficking investigation launched in late 2022. By February 2024, both men were arrested and charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder, along with various drug trafficking and weapons-related offenses. Dhaliwal had been out on bail since June 2024 under strict conditions prior to Friday’s fatal attack.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the case as the investigation into this targeted killing continues.
