A suspected thief pretended to be a maintenance worker in order to steal a Surrey senior’s purse

Surrey police are asking the public to help identify a theft suspect who allegedly pretended to be a maintenance worker to enter a senior’s home. 

The incident happened around 2 p.m. on Dec. 15 at a retirement residence in the 15500 block of 16 Avenue, according to the Surrey Police Service. Police say the suspect gained access to an apartment by claiming he was checking the sprinkler system, then stole the victim’s purse before leaving. 

Investigators say the case is still active and there may be other witnesses. Police have released images of the suspect in hopes that witnesses, possible additional victims, or anyone with information will come forward. 

The suspect is described as a white man about 5’8” tall. He was last seen wearing dark pants, a red Under Armour hoodie, a dark hat, and sunglasses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey police at 604-599-0502.
