Mission RCMP are alerting the public after two women were allegedly targeted in attempted abductions and assaults over the past few days.
Police report that the first incident occurred between 11:00 p.m. on December 14 and 1:00 a.m. on December 15. A woman was walking along Logan Avenue when she was approached by a man driving a white SUV. The driver allegedly solicited the woman for a sexual act. When she refused, the suspect exited the vehicle and physically assaulted her.
As the victim attempted to flee, the suspect chased her and sprayed her with bear spray. Fortunately, she managed to escape without physical injuries.
On Monday evening, police received a report of a second attempted abduction. A woman was seen seeking help from a passerby between Murray Street and Horne Street on 3rd Avenue. She reported that a man in a white SUV had solicited her for sex before attempting to forcibly drag her toward his vehicle. This victim also managed to escape safely.
Investigators note that both victims are members of a vulnerable sector of the community, though it is currently unclear if they were specifically targeted for this reason. RCMP are searching for a suspect described as:
Height: Approximately 6’0″
Appearance: Bearded with short hair
Distinctive Features: Tattoos on his arms
Vehicle: A white SUV
“At this time, it is unknown if the suspect is a resident of Mission or from a neighboring community,” police stated in a release.
Mission RCMP are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the vehicle or individual matching this description immediately.
