Five men are facing charges following a mail and theft investigation that resulted in the seizure of hundreds of pieces of identification, bank cards, and mail, B.C. authorities say.
Burnaby RCMP began the investigation in October last year after two break-ins were reported at an apartment building in the city, police said in an earlier news release. In December, officers executed a search warrant that led to the seizure of 346 pieces of identification, 496 bank cards, and 576 items of mail, among other evidence.
RCMP announced the charges on Tuesday, calling the case complex and time-consuming.
“These types of investigations can be extremely tedious and very detailed,” said Sgt. Jamie Belleville, adding he was proud of the Prolific Offender Suppression Team for advancing the investigation.
Jake Dela Cruz Capinpin, Terrence Mathew Ugang, and Flaviano Uayan Dalura each face two counts of break and enter and two counts of mail theft.
Jaymarc Sibal Malana has been charged with two counts of break and enter, two counts of mail theft, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of forgery, one count of possession of identity documents, and one count of possessing a forged document with intent.
Christopher Steven Santos faces two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, along with one count of forgery and one count of possession of identity documents.
The accused range in age from 25 to 36.
