On December 10, 2025, at around 6:22 a.m., Golden RCMP responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 1 east of Golden. A semi-truck and trailer lost control, spun out, and crossed the centre barrier, blocking all four lanes of the highway. The disabled truck was then hit by another semi-truck and a car.

Investigators have concluded that snowy weather was a major factor in the collision.

“Fortunately, no one was injured, but the highway was closed for an extended period,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano. “The highway remains closed in both directions due to the crash and ongoing avalanche control.”

Golden-Field RCMP are reminding drivers to consider road conditions before travelling and to adjust their driving accordingly. The public is also encouraged to check DriveBC (English only) for the latest road updates and information related to this incident.

Forecasts for the Yoho National Park area near Golden predicted around 40 centimetres of new snowfall on Wednesday, elevating avalanche risks to the highest warning level.
