Twelve cars from a Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) train derailed approximately 16 kilometers east of Cranbrook, the railway company has confirmed.
Initial assessments by CPKC indicate that the derailment involved approximately 12 cars, including several carrying wood products and three tanker cars transporting propane.
In an update, CPKC stated that the propane tanker cars—one of which experienced a leak on Saturday—were safely repositioned yesterday by a dangerous goods team. This action prepares the cars for safe unloading in the coming days.
The railway company confirmed that the investigation into the cause of the derailment is still ongoing.
