Nearly 45,000 Peloton bikes in Canada are being recalled due to defective seat posts that can break and detach while in use, posing a risk of falls and injuries.
Although no incidents have been reported in Canada, at least two injuries have occurred in the U.S., where a similar recall affects about 833,000 of the company’s exercise bikes.
“Consumers should stop using the recalled bikes immediately and contact Peloton for a free replacement seat post that can be installed at home,” Health Canada said in its recall notice.
The recall applies to seat posts on Peloton Original Series Bike+ units with model number PL02 and serial numbers beginning with the letter T. The serial number can be found inside or behind the front fork or behind the flywheel. Affected bikes were sold between 2020 and April 2025.
Instructions for locating your bike’s serial number and checking if it’s part of the recall are available on Peloton’s website, where customers can also order a replacement seat post. Peloton can also be reached toll-free at (833) 821-0099.
In 2023, Peloton recalled about 108,000 bikes in Canada for a similar seat post issue, which also prompted a recall of more than two million units in the U.S. after reports of 13 injuries, including a fractured wrist, cuts, and bruises.
Peloton, based in New York City, sells stationary bikes equipped with touchscreens for live and on-demand fitness classes. In August, the company announced a six per cent reduction in its global workforce, citing ongoing tariffs expected to cost around US$65 million.
