A man was fatally shot in Burnaby’s Metrotown area yesterday on Wednesday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in to take over the case after Mounties responded to reports of shots fired near McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a male victim. Despite efforts to save his life, the man did not survive the shooting. Police later located a burnt vehicle nearby, north of Central Park, but the connection between the vehicle fire and the homicide has not yet been confirmed.

The parking lot on Kingsborough Street remained blocked off through this morning as the investigation proceeds. IHIT stated that investigators believe this was a targeted incident and that they do not believe there is any further risk to the public.
