A serious traffic accident on Highway 1 near Chilliwack on Thursday night resulted in the death of one woman and left several other people injured.
The Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment of the RCMP confirmed on Friday that the collision occurred around 6:50 p.m. Thursday evening near Popkum, east of Chilliwack.
Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene. According to BC Emergency Health Services, six ambulances and an air ambulance were deployed to transport four people to the hospital.
The RCMP stated, “Tragically a woman who was a passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced deceased on scene.”
Police reported that the factors contributing to the accident are still under investigation.
