Punjabi woman killed in vehicle incident on Highway 17 in Delta

A Punjabi woman in her mid 20s was discovered dead inside a burnt car on Highway 17 in Delta. The family members have identified the deceased as Amanpreet Kaur, a resident of Surrey who was originally from Raikot in the Ludhiana district.

According to available information, Amanpreet was married earlier this year and moved to Surrey from Edmonton in April.

In a press release, the Delta Police Department (DPD) stated that they received a report of a vehicle incident, followed by a car fire, on Highway 17 in the 7000 block at approximately 11:20 PM on Sunday night.

Police confirmed that despite the efforts of emergency responders, the sole female occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.

Authorities stated that the DPD is investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident in conjunction with the BC Coroners Service.

When RED FM inquired with Delta Police whether foul play was suspected in the case, the Delta Police responded by saying “This is the very early stage of the investigation, and our investigators are working hard to determine what happened. We are appealing to the public—anyone who has any information regarding this incident is urged to contact us.”

No further details regarding the cause of the fire or the victim’s death have been released as the investigation is ongoing.
