Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie addresses growing concern among property owners following the B.C. Supreme Court’s decision granting the Cowichan Nation title to 800 acres in Richmond. Mayor Brodie explains why the City of Richmond, alongside the B.C. and federal governments, is appealing the ruling, calling the concept of co-existing land titles “deeply problematic.” He says the original claim of 1,800 acres was reduced to 800 acres, but even that poses uncertainty for property owners. The Mayor also confirms that Richmond has reached out to federal and provincial political leaders, noting that none appear to support the court’s decision. He invites all affected and concerned residents to attend an information session on October 28th to better understand the implications and next steps.
