A private Italian airline has suspended all flights between Toronto and Amritsar, a major city in northwestern India.
In a statement on its website, Neos Air said the decision was due to “current international geopolitical instability” and a resulting “decline in booking trends,” adding that passenger loads were too low to maintain operations. The suspension took effect on October 8.
The budget carrier had been offering weekly round-trip flights between Toronto and Amritsar, with a five-hour stopover in Milan.
Neos Air stated that its customer service team is “fully available” to assist passengers and provide “maximum support” in managing affected bookings.
Passengers who booked directly through www.neosair.com will receive an email with detailed refund instructions, while those who purchased tickets through travel agencies are advised to contact their agents directly.
The airline also noted that a 24/7 live chat service is available on its website for additional help or information.
Travel agents are being directed to the online announcement for the latest operational updates.
Travel advisories in effect for India
Global Affairs Canada is currently advising Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution when travelling to India, and to pay close attention to regional travel advisories due to the risk of terrorist attacks across the country.
Travellers heading to northwestern India, particularly the states of Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan, are urged to avoid all travel within 10 kilometres of the Pakistan border because of the unpredictable security situation and the presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance, according to the advisory.
The agency also notes that the Attari–Wagah border crossing is currently closed.
Despite the suspension of some routes, several airlines — including Qatar Airways, Air Canada, Air France, and Air India — continue to operate flights from Toronto to Amritsar.
