The RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) has achieved a major success in an ongoing drug trafficking investigation, seizing over 56 kilograms of illicit drugs and arresting four individuals.
The six-month investigation, which began in February, identified a large-scale, sophisticated drug operation suspected of supplying significant volumes of narcotics throughout the province.
RCMP in a statement said on September 10, RCMP SPOSU officers, with assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in Surrey’s Guildford neighbourhood. “Inside a suite in the residence’s basement, investigators discovered equipment being used to process and package the illegal drugs,” it added.
The total seizure included a devastating haul of dangerous substances: 24 kg of suspected methamphetamine, 9 kg of suspected fentanyl, 3 kg of suspected crack cocaine, 2.6 kg of suspected cocaine, 2 kg of suspected benzodiazepine, along with 7.5 kg of suspected caffeine and 7.6 kg of suspected buffing agent.
Investigators also seized over $1 million in assets connected to the operation, including multiple vehicles (two pick-up trucks, two SUVs, a car, a motorhome, two quads, two jet-skis, and one off-road side-by-side vehicle) and approximately $54,000 in cash.
Superintendent Ryan Element, Community Services Officer for RCMP SPOSU, stated that “This drug seizure represents a significant disruption to the local drug trade in Surrey,” adding that the suspected drugs were believed to be supplied to communities spanning from the Lower Mainland right into the Okanagan.
