Nina Krieger, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, has issued a statement thanking law enforcement following seven charges laid this week in relation to extortion investigations.
Minister Krieger commended the B.C. Extortion Task Force and all police agencies for their “coordinated and tireless efforts” to protect families and businesses. She stated that the recent charges against seven individuals reflect the “unwavering commitment and strong collaboration” among law-enforcement agencies to bring those responsible to justice.
Complex Investigations and New Tools
Krieger noted that these are complex investigations with international dimensions. She emphasized that the government remains committed to ensuring police have the necessary tools and resources to move these probes forward. This commitment includes establishing the B.C. Extortion Task Force.
She also highlighted the government’s success under Premier David Eby’s leadership in successfully pressing the federal government to list the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity. This designation provides police and prosecutors with stronger tools to freeze assets and disrupt the gang’s financing.
